There are some interesting upcoming events at Lil Rhody in North Kingstown.

- This Saturday, 5/11, from 4-6 pm, there is a DUPR rating event for 3.5+ players. Sign up as an individual, partners rotate. As of this writing, there are 13 open spots out of 24 spots total.

- Next Saturday, 5/18, there are tryouts for teams that will compete on June 2 as part of the National Team Pickleball League (https://ntpl.org). There are lots of spots open for tryouts in different brackets (e.g. Men's 3.5, age 50+).

- As noted above, June 2 is the Rhode Island Qualifying League Event. Teams that are formed after the May 18 event, or pre-formed teams that register independently, will compete to represent RI in national championships in Hilton Head or Las Vegas later in the year.

Fun, right?

Update from Councilwoman Sue Anderbois (extracted from a longer email exchange): "I secured funding to repave the courts and have them restriped for use by Nathan Bishop and neighbors (so for use for basketball, tennis, and pickleball)....You should all be playing pickleball without issues this summer!" Sounds like the work might start any time between late May and early July. If you want to see the full email from Sue, email me at david(miuku)schrag(piste)net. I have asked Sue to ensure that the designer and contractor know what they're doing with pickleball so we don't see a repeat of the 9th Street court. --David
